Charcoal briquette specifications

Numbers copied from a sales page are not yet a specification. The product, sampling basis, method, tolerance and acceptance rule must be connected.

Product identity

Record commercial product name, charcoal raw material, intended use and any grade or variant. If “Premium” or “Standard” is used, define the difference; a name alone cannot explain dimensions, composition or quality.

Physical format

Define shape, nominal dimensions, dimensional tolerances, unit weight and weight tolerance. Add mechanical integrity or breakage criteria where handling performance matters. State how many units are measured and how samples are selected.

Composition declaration

Ask for raw-material identity and binder declaration. Claims such as no additives, natural or vegetable origin should match the current formulation and wording approved for the product. Avoid inferring composition from appearance.

Analytical criteria

Moisture, ash, fixed carbon, calorific value and volatile matter may be relevant, but methods and basis matter. State whether a result is as received or on a dry basis, identify the method or laboratory, and define the acceptance limit rather than publishing an isolated marketing number.

Performance evaluation

Burn time, temperature, ignition behaviour and ash observations depend on test conditions. If they are commercial criteria, agree the appliance, fuel mass, ignition method, airflow, endpoint and recording procedure.

Packaging and shipment

Include pack material, nominal pack weight, tolerances, print, language, barcode, packing count, palletization and loading basis. Packaging integrity and actual net weight should have inspection criteria.

Documents and change control

List current specification, applicable laboratory reports, FSC information, traceability data, packaging approvals and shipment documents. Define who approves revisions and how a product or pack change is communicated.
