How to import charcoal briquettes

Define the product

Identify barbecue charcoal briquettes, raw material, composition, intended use and commercial specification. Confirm the customs classification with your broker; do not rely solely on a supplier’s generic description.

Confirm destination requirements

Review import controls, labeling, packaging, language, product safety, environmental and due-diligence obligations in the destination market. European buyers should determine their role and current EUDR obligations for the relevant wood-derived product.

Agree packaging and palletization

Pack dimensions, nominal weight, materials, shipping marks and pallets affect loading, handling and regulatory review. Confirm whether pallets or wooden packaging require treatment or marking for the route.

Obtain carrier acceptance

Charcoal transport can require carrier-specific classification, declaration, packing and documentation. Confirm acceptance before production and booking. Requirements can vary by carrier and route.

Build the document list

Depending on the transaction, documents may include commercial invoice, packing list, origin information, bill of lading, product specification, test reports, transport declarations and agreed FSC or traceability information. Make the list part of the quotation.

Calculate the loading basis

Use actual pack and pallet dimensions, gross weight, container limits and carrier rules. A published “standard container quantity” may be wrong for a different configuration.

Plan inspection and release

Agree whether quality, quantity, pack or document checks occur before shipment and who performs them. Connect acceptance records to the product and shipment.

Prepare for arrival

Coordinate broker instructions, original or electronic documents, destination handling, storage and claims procedures before the vessel arrives.
